When the original design specifications and drawings are not available, we utilize our 3D laser scanner to quickly measure the intricate design features of any turbomachinery component. The 3D laser scanner creates a set of three dimensional data points – a point cloud – that represent the surface of the measured object in geometric samples. To gather the most accurate point cloud data, scans from multiple angles are necessary for more complex components.
Once the scans are complete, the data is exported into a modeling program where a common reference system must be specified. This common reference system combines all point cloud data to form a cohesive and accurate three dimensional model. From this model we can extrapolate more data for the machine and run simulations to test the efficiency of the current design, and re-engineer the component for higher efficiencies.
